just like you

In 2013 Rustica Lamb and friends at the time were lamenting the fact that there was no dedicated elearning conference in New Zealand.

The solution was simple, they decided to create one and eLearnz was born.

The first eLearnz event was in 2013 which saw a crowd of 50 come together at the North Harbour Stadium. It was run again in 2015 as a bi annual conference with international learning guru, Nigel Paine as MC. This time over 100 turned up. In 2016, the hugely successful two day eLearnz eLab was created for L&D Practitioners to come along and learn hands on, low cost and free tools to help them create engaging elearning.

Rustica and her team continually scan learning and development trends and technologies globally to ensure they bring the latest in technology to the eLearnz events. We also like to have fun, so there’s plenty of competitions with great prizes.

eLearnz 17 will be a 2 day conference held 1st & 2nd August in Auckland with an eLearning Awards night and a supporting 1 day eLearnz eLab on the 3rd. This will be an opportunity for the NZ learning and development community to come together to hear the latest in digital learning trends, case studies from New Zealand companies, and learn from internatonal thought leaders. Of course there will also be plenty of ideas and discussion as well as plenty of fun and networking to be had! Purchase a ticket to eLearnz Conference and receive a discount off your eLab ticket!

eLearnz has been organised by the awesome Bloom team.

Venue: Cliftons, L4 45 Queen Street, Auckland

Click here for information on eLab Auckand 3rd August

eLearnz is a traditional conference format where you’ll be treated to exciting keynote speakers, but there’ll also be plenty of time for conversation and collaboration that will inspire and invigorate your tired L&D brains.

The conference is themed ‘we are the ones’. We are the ones to impact business performance and growth, the ones to use technology to increase staff productivity, and we are the ones who can advise the business whether training is or isn’t the right solution from their people problems. We are the ones who should be trusted advisors not order takers.

At the same event we hold the elearning awards, where practitioners can submit their best elearning or digital learning projects. These are judged by international and local experts. Registration for eLearnz will include a discount to the awards dinner and party which is also Matrix themed.  Click Awards on the menu to find out more and download the Guidelines and Entry Form.

Scroll down to view the Speaker Programme and click on each speaker for further information on their presentations.

So if you are a learning and development professional interested in keeping up with the latest, this is the conference for you.

Don’t miss the most exciting L&D event of 2017 for Matrix inspired inspiration and skill building to grow your own career.

Nigel Paine

Nigel left the BBC in 2006 to start his own company, which focuses on leadership, creativity, innovation and e-learning. He works with companies in Europe, Brazil, Australia and the US.

Nigel is a Masie Learning fellow and has written articles and whitepapers on subjects as diverse as ‘Creativity in the Workplace’, ‘Building Corporate Heroes’ and ‘The Future of E-Learning’.

Nigel Paine is back this year as our MC! Nigel is a change-focused leader with a worldwide reputation and a unique grasp of media, learning and development. Our Platinum ticket holders will have the privilege of being registered on the day by Nigel and will also participate in an exclusive Q&A with him.

We COULD be the Ones!

The coming disruption of corporate learning will be the biggest shakeout for decades. Which side of the fence will you land on? This presso will share the huge waves of change about to hit L&D, and what you have to do to stay relevant and be part of it.

Here are brilliant opportunities and massive threats. Don’t miss this – your career may depend on it.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER : CHARLES JENNINGS

Charles Jennings

The Role of New Technology and the Value of Experiences in the 70:20:10 Approach

As a co-founder of the 70:20:10 Institute, Charles works with senior leadership teams, HR groups and L&D professionals to help them use the 70:20:10 methodology.

His career includes roles as a Business School professor, Chief Learning Officer, and senior advisor and member of boards and steering groups for international bodies. Charles is a Fellow of the Learning & Performance Institute (FLPI), and of the British Institute for Learning & Development (FBILD).

He has been honoured with the UK World of Learning ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Learning Industry’ award and has been a speaker at Gulf Economic Forum conferences where he has shared platforms with Presidents, Prime Ministers and other world leaders.

We have pulled out all the stops to get Charles Jennings to eLearnz!  Charles is a leading thinker and practitioner in innovative performance and learning approaches. He is known globally for his work with the 70:20:10 model.

The Role of New Technology and the Value of Experiences in the 70:20:10 Approach.

Sci-fi can teach us quite a bit about the possibilities and potential in the world of 70:20:10.  Star Trek’s Borg and their hive mind explain that the universe of content in a learning environment equals the square of learner experiences. The Morpheus rescue scene in The Matrix tell us all about the power of real-time learning and performance support.

In today’s world both of these sci-fi fantasies are becoming realities. 70:20:10 harnesses the power of experiential and social learning and, with the right technologies, can help us exploit both. The result is greatly improved performance in the workplace.

Charles will use these two sci-fi metaphors, and others, to explain some ways 70:20:10 is being used by organisations to extend learning and eLearning beyond the ’10’ of structured courses and modules.

The coming Disruption of Corporate Learning, We could be The Ones

In the Shadow of Sci-Fi : the Role of New Technology and the Value of Experiences in the 70:20:10 Approach
– Charles Jennings, International Keynote Speaker, Founder, 70:20:10 Institute

Sci-fi can teach us quite a bit about the possibilities and potential in the world of 70:20:10.  Star Trek’s Borg and their hive mind explain that the universe of content in a learning environment equals the square of learner experiences. Getting your Business Case for Learning Technology across the line – You Are The One
– Josh Squires, International Speaker, COO, Docebo, Platinum Sponsor

Sometimes, your executive team won’t immediately see the full value of a learning technology investment. To convince them, you’ll need to understand their priorities and the challenges that stand in their way. Then you can connect the dots for them and position your request for learning technology to address their specific concerns.

Your ability to deliver a compelling business case for learning technology hinges on how well you structure your argument to resolve the chief challenges and priorities of your audience. No matter which executive you want to convince, make sure to manage expectations about achieving success. Don’t overpromise and underdeliver. Learning technology is not something you just turn on and see instant results – getting value takes time and effort.

In this interactive session, Josh will cover:
– 5 steps to building a robust business case
– How to Position Learning Technology with different Exec levels
– How to determine return on investment (ROI) when trying to gain buy-in for a new solution
Josh’s presentation will be interactive with videos of each of the stakeholders and what is important to them.

Become an elearning Rockstar – How to Achieve True Rapid Development
– Curtis J Morley, International Speaker, President, eLearning Brothers

This will be a voyage across the eLearning Development Spectum. Find out the best ways to achieve true “Rapid Development” along the 5 segments of the development spectrum.

xAPI is the Big Data of Learning.  Ignore it, and you may be left behind.
– Paul Schneider, Senior VP Business Development, dominKnow Learning Systems

In this presentation, we’ll examine what xAPI is – practically speaking – without any…. well, maybe a small amount of, technobabble. With a foundation for what xAPI can represent, we’ll then move on to what kind of impact and potential xAPI can have for practically any business, and how this capability can truly change what training, content and learning means to an organization and the impact it can represent.

Finally, we’ll look at an organization and see how xAPI has already had a positive impact, and the results they are finding from this new measurement capability. If that wasn’t enough, for fun we’ll invite you to play a game entirely built around xAPI technology.

Make sure you are the one to understand what xAPI is and how powerful it can be, which will enable you to be the one who has the training reporting your organisation wants.

Story Telling in Video
– Baz Caitcheon, Director & Producer, Bazzacam

You will learn how to shoot, edit and upload short video stories in the first part of this session. Then you’ll be let loose on Auckland’s Queen Street (or your preferred spot) to shoot, edit and upload your own credible video in the second part.
The theme is The Matrix so we are going to have some real fun with this!  We’ll provide the red or blue pills and bring along your props for role playing.  The best video will win a SJ HD Sports Cam.

Meet me in the VR Room
– Jacinta Penn, Director, Workbright, Gold Sponsor

VR development is changing at an accelerating pace. Already popular for those needing to train in simulations of dangerous environments, or with heavy vehicles, now it is moving into shared learning experiences.

Jacinta will demonstrate how coaches can use VR for coaching, performance assessment and gap analysis and how trainers can use virtual instruction to reach learners around the country in a social and collaborative environment.

Panel: My Biggest L&D Failures and what I Learnt from them

Josh Squires, COO, Docebo
Emma Kirkman, Founder, Talent Teq
Greg Holder, Learning & Capability Development Manager, Vodafone NZ

So often we hear of the success stories and showcases of what success looks like. However, we can also learn just as much from the projects that failed and although sometimes humiliating, we learn the most from.

Hear the panel talk of their war stories and what their greatest learnings were.

Increasing Speed to Competence and Reducing Time to Train New Starters (Orion Health case study)
– Emma Kirkman, Founder, Talent Teq

Moving your organisation from old-school induction to an EX focused onboarding model is not for the faint hearted!  Gain insights on how you can drive change effectively by leveraging new ways of thinking and smart e-learning.

You’ll also hear helpful tips on how to avoid pitfalls that could derail the long-term success of your onboarding program.

What’s Hot in Learning Tech in 2017
– Rustica Lamb, Director, Bloom Learning Technologies

There’s a multitude of websites and people identifying the trends in learning technology. Is the LMS dying or is it not? What about AR & VR and how is it really being applied in non medical, non blue collar situations?

Because you are the ones on the ground, this interactive session is a facilitated discussion pulling together the thoughts and ideas from the lead learners in New Zealand who are attending eLearnz to determine what the L&D community are really thinking.
